Neighborhood Paramedic Program

The Neighborhood Paramedic is a service provided free of charge to the residents of the Rock Community Fire Protection District. The Neighborhood Paramedic is a program where residents with special needs can register with the fire district for any special medical conditions that emergency personnel should be aware of in the event of an emergency or someone that is limited in their activities in their home due to a medical condition.

Once registered, emergency personnel can be made aware of medical problems or conditions before they arrive at your home as well as be made aware of those most current conditions with the Vial of Life

For those persons that are not able to get out of their home regularly due to a medical condition, they can be registered for our Well Being Home Visits. Once registered in this program, one of our professional members can schedule a visit to your home just to check that everything is well with that person and their home! We don't just come by and take a blood pressure, we check that everything seems to be in order, there is enough medication for the individual, and the necessities of home such as food, drink, heat, or air conditioning are all available. In the event there is a problem, we would be able to contact a family member or other appropriate person to help with correcting the problems found.

This program can also be used to check on people that are homebound and their welfare during extreme weather conditions, such as heat warnings or severe cold weather.

It should be noted that this program does not replace skilled nursing or home health care

If you would like to register for this program or have any questions, about this or any other programs offered by the Rock Community Fire Protection District, please feel free to contact us at (636) 296-2211.

Always Remember, in the event of any Emergency, call 911

Vital medical information about a persons health such as name, age, doctor’s name, medical history, medications, allergies, and emergency contacts are all kept in the Vial of Life container. The vial is placed in the refrigerator and a sticker indicating the presence of a Vial of Life is placed on the outside of the door. Emergency service personnel know to look for this sticker when arriving at your home for an emergency.

Persons with medical conditions that warrant special needs or care are registered and the information is supplied to Emergency Service Personnel. This information is then accessed while Emergency Personnel are enroute to your home. Any special equipment or notifications that may be need can then be done prior to their arrival. Please note that this information is maintained in our emergency service apparatus and is not accessible to persons outside of the emergency response personnel.

This program is used to assure that any resident with a special need or certain limitations are living in a safe and healthy environment. Visits could normally include a check of the persons vital signs (blood pressure and pulse), food and medication supply, and overall safety of the person and home. If any problems are found, appropriate notifications or actions would then be taken based on information filed with the registration form.

Note: Rock Community Fire Protection District would like to thank Sheila Allen-Frost from the Eureka Fire Protection District for her caring vision of the Neighborhood Paramedic program.
